Overview & Motivation

An augmented reality peak finder and navigation assistant designed for zero-connectivity high-altitude regions, charting real-time topographies and names of surrounding peaks.

The Friction

The Problem

Navigating and identifying peaks in high-altitude areas like Spiti or Ladakh is difficult without internet access. Paper maps are hard to consult in freezing winds.

The Breakthrough

The Solution

Itera Peak combines offline elevation maps with ARKit rendering, letting hikers point their camera at any horizon to instantly see peak names, heights, and route markers.

Development Process

Creator Process

Conceived during a high-altitude expedition in Himachal Pradesh. The offline Metal projection code was optimized to run at 60fps on mobile.

UX Philosophy

Design Philosophy

Overlaying data as a natural extension of landscape. AR markers should be thin, quiet, and blend into mountain silhouettes.
